The hollidays have finally come to an end and we are now in to 2024 portion of the basketball season.


The Carterville Lions open the New Year with two games coming up this weekend.


Friday night, the Massac County Patriots will travel to Carterville to face the Lions in SIRR Conference action.


The Patriots are coming off of their second place finish in the 59th Eledorado Holiday Tournement. The dropped the championship game 56-51 to the Herrin Tigers.


Carterville, who entered the EHT as the number one seed went a disappointing1-2 in the tourney and were bounced after consecutive losses to Harrisburg and Vienna.


The Lions enter Friday nights game with a 2-0 confernce record with wins over Herrin and Harrisburg, while Massac Co comes into the game with a 1-2 conference mark.


Game time is set for 7:45 PM on NewsRadio WJPF with me and John Homan.

Carterville will hit the road on Saturday as they head to St. Joseph-Odgen for the 2024 Christie Clinic Shootout.


The shootout will feature seven games during the course of the day, with action starting at 11:00 AM.


Coach Hawkins and the Lions will face Normal University High School at 12:30 PM. The Pioneers are 9-6 on the season as of this writing.


John Homan and I will have the call on NewsRadio WJPF starting at approximately 12:15 PM.

As is the post-Christmas tradition for the fidty ninth time the Eldorado Holiday Tournament begins play with your Carterville Lions as the number one seed.


Coach Shane Hawkins and the Lions open up at 8:30 tomorrow morning when they face Carrier Mills.


The Lions are coming off a 53-42 win on the road at Chester. The Lions are now 6-4 on the year.


John Homan will have the call for you on NewsRadio WJPF (AM1340/FM99.5) starting with pre-game coverage at approximately 8:15 tomorrow morning.

Good Evening all!


The Carterville Lions wrap up their pre-Christmas schedule coming up Friday night as they head to Chester to face the Yellow Jackets.


Carterville snapped their three game losing streak on Tuesday night after beating the Harrisburg Bulldogs 57-40. The Lions are now 5-4 on the season and 2-0 in the SIRR Conference Ohio Division.


After starting the season 2-2, the Yellow Jackets have lost five games in a row, the latest being a three point 50-47 loss to Sparta on Tuesday night.
