The Carterville Lions are back on the road tonight as they head to Metropolis to take on the Massac County Patriots in an important SIRR Conference matchup. Conference games always hit different. Familiar opponents. Physical play. Every possession matters a little more.
Massac County enters the night 6–6 overall and 1–2 in conference play, a team still very much in the hunt. Playing at home gives the Patriots an edge, and they’ll be motivated to make a move in the standings. Expect energy early, pressure defense, and a pace that tests Carterville’s composure.
Carterville has shown all season they can win in multiple ways. They score efficiently, share the basketball, and defend without needing to gamble. That balance travels well. Road wins in conference play aren’t about style points — they’re about execution, rebounding, and taking care of the ball.
Tonight’s key will be tempo. If the Lions control the pace and get consistent paint touches, good things usually follow. Defensively, limiting second-chance points and staying disciplined on shooters will be crucial against a Massac team that feeds off momentum.
Coverage of tonight’s game begins with pregame at 7:30 PM on NewsRadio WJPF. Dave McKenzie and John Homan will have the call as the Lions look to make a statement in conference play. Road gym. Conference night.
