The Carterville Lions gave their home crowd plenty to cheer about last Friday, racing to a 42–0 halftime lead on the way to a 56–14 victory over Murphysboro. Carterville scored 28 points in the opening quarter and controlled the game on both sides of the ball. Now, the Lions turn their attention to Friday’s regular-season finale against Anna-Jonesboro, with Senior Night adding extra meaning to the Week 9 matchup.

Johnny Miller led Carterville’s ground attack with 105 yards and two touchdowns on just nine carries, averaging 11.7 yards per attempt and breaking a 59-yard run. Jack Dodson completed five of eight passes for 106 yards and two touchdowns without an interception. That performance pushed Dodson past the 1,000-yard passing mark for the season. He enters this week with 1,059 passing yards, 13 touchdown passes and no interceptions.

Gavin Johnson caught three passes for 64 yards and two touchdowns, while Kamryn Gibbs completed all three of his attempts for 55 yards and another score. Hudson Bisching added a 45-yard touchdown reception, and Reggie Wilson contributed a 17-yard touchdown run. In all, Carterville produced 354 yards of offense, including 193 rushing and 161 passing.

The Lions’ defense was equally effective, holding Murphysboro to 72 total yards. The Red Devils managed just 33 rushing yards on 32 attempts, while Braden Brown recorded two sacks and three tackles for loss. Carterville also forced two turnovers and finished without a giveaway. It was the kind of complete performance the Lions will look to carry into the final week of the regular season.
