The Carterville Lions return to the road Friday night as they travel to Metropolis for an SIRR Ohio Division matchup with the Massac County Patriots. Carterville enters the game 6-0 and will try to continue an impressive start that has included wins over Marion, Nashville, Charleston, Herrin, Salem and Harrisburg. With the regular season moving into its final month, every conference game becomes increasingly important for the Lions.

Carterville kept its perfect season alive last Friday with a road victory at Harrisburg. After posting a 45-0 shutout of Salem the previous week, the Lions faced another conference test against the Bulldogs. Carterville once again leaned on a productive rushing attack and a defense that has become increasingly difficult for opponents to solve as the season has progressed.

One of the biggest moments of the night belonged to senior running back Johnny Miller, who surpassed the 1,000-yard rushing mark for the season during the victory. Reaching 1,000 yards in just six games is an impressive milestone and reflects both Miller's production and the work of Carterville's offensive line. Miller has been a major part of a Lions offense that has shown it can control games on the ground while still getting production from quarterback Jack Dodson and the passing game.

Now the focus shifts to Massac County. The Patriots will have home-field advantage Friday night, and Carterville will be playing its second consecutive game away from home. The Lions will look to establish their running game early, avoid turnovers and continue the physical style that has helped them remain unbeaten through the first six weeks.

For Massac County, slowing down Miller and Reggie Wilson and Carterville's ground attack figures to be a major challenge. But the Lions can't afford to look ahead. With Murphysboro and Anna-Jonesboro still waiting on the schedule, Friday represents another opportunity for Carterville to take care of business in the Ohio Division and continue building momentum toward the final weeks of the regular season.
