The Carterville Lions head into a massive weekend with everything on the line, starting tonight at home against Herrin in SIRR Conference action.
This one matters. A lot.
Carterville and Herrin sit tied atop the Ohio Division at 3–1 in conference play. Winner takes control. Loser plays catch-up.
The Lions already made a statement once. Back on December 12, Carterville went on the road and beat Herrin 71–59.Now the Tigers come to Carterville looking for payback. Expect intensity from the opening tip.
Carterville enters the weekend 20–2 overall and playing some of its best basketball of the season. They average 64.6 points per game while shooting over 48 percent from the field. Defensively, they force turnovers and protect the paint. This team wins with balance, not shortcuts.
Several Lions continue to lead the charge. Colton Hawkins and Maddox Gulley provide steady scoring. Harper and Max Lustenberger bring efficiency and toughness, while Zach Snow has had a hot hand shooting of late. Depth has been a quiet strength all season—and it shows late in games.
Saturday night adds another chapter. Carterville will wrap up the Benton Invitational Tournament by facing the host Benton Rangers in the weather-delayed championship game at 7:30 PM. Another trophy is on the table. The Lions are trying to extend their in-season tourney championship streak intact after winning the opening Trico Tourney Championship and the EHT Championship.
Momentum matters.
But make no mistake—conference games are the priority. These are the nights that shape postseason paths, seedings, and confidence. Every possession counts. Every stop matters. And this weekend could define the Lions’ run toward March.
