The 57th Annual Eldorado Holiday Tournament kicked off today with sixteen teams participating in this years tourney.


The Carterville Lions started the EHT today as they took on the Redbirds from West Frankfort in the 11:30 AM matchup.


Carterville picked up the 64-46 win after leading by two points at the half. Fairfield defeated Anna-Jonesboro 49-33 in the 1:45 PM tilt.


Quarter-final round action will begin tomorrow afternoon. The Lions, who are the number five seed in the EHT will have the number four Fairfield Mules starting at approximately 3:15 PM.


Scott Hudson and I will have the play-by-play starting with the pre-game show at about 3:00 PM on NewsRadio WJPF and here on our livestream. Hope you can join us.

The 2021 Eldorado Holiday Tournament pairings were announced today and the Carterville Lions enter the tourney as the #5 seed and will open the play at 11:30 am on December 27th.


The top five seeds in the tourney are:

#1 - Herrin Tigers

#2 - Massac County Patriots

#3 - Hamilton County

#4 - Fairfield Mules

#5 - Carterville Lions





Scott and I will discuss the tourney pairings in our pre-game show Friday night when the Lions host the Du Quoin Indians in SIRR Conference play. Pre-game will begin at approximately 7:30 pm on NewsRadio WJPF and on our YouTube Livestream.

Coach Shane Hawkins and the Carterville Lions opened the 2021 season with a nice win this past Tuesday over Red Bud 71-49.


The Lions received balanced scoring up and down the lineup in the win. They were led by Blake Burkey who poured in a team high 20 with thirteen of those coming in the second half.


John Stroud and Kade Lustenberger each chipped in 13 a piece and Townsend Barton and Nolan Hartford added 10 each.


This week, the Lions open play in the Trico Tourney starting on Monday evening when they face the Steeleville Warriors at 7:00 PM at Trico High School.


Wednesday night the Lions will face the host school Pioneers starting at 7:00 PM and pool play will wrap up on Friday night when the Lions will play Sparta starting at 5:30 PM.


Saturday's game time will be determined by pool play record this week.

Carterville Girls Basketball Win's Salem Thanksgiving Tournament


Congratulations to Coach Todd Rogers and the Carterville Lions girls basketball team after beating the Teutopolis Wooden Shoes to win the 2021 Salem Thanksgiving tourney on Saturday 50-43.


Congratulations to the Doyle sisters as Amayah and Alecia were named to the All-Tourney team and Alecia was named the Tournament MVP.


Carterville will have two home games this week as they will host Massac County on Tuesday night and Breese Mater Dei coming up this Saturday.
