Winter Sports Teams Are Rolling Along at CHS
It was a very busy week for Carterville Lions sports teams.
Let's start with the Carterville Competition Cheer team who finished in first place at the Mt. Vernon competition on Sunday.
With the first place finish, the ladies qualified for the ICCA State competition that is held in January 2019.
Their next competition is coming up on December 15th, then CHS will host the Carterville Invitational starting at 10:00 AM.
I will be there live streaming the entire competition starting at 10 AM. You can watch on Youtube below.
Carterville Lions Win Conference Opener at DuQuoin
I’ve been watching and calling Carterville basketball for a long time and every single year one of the most physical games the Lions play is on the road at DuQuoin.
Friday nights game was no different but the Lions hung right in there and walked away with a 42-39 SIRR conference win over the Indians
Austin Garbe finished as the leading scorer for the Lions with 20 points, his highest point total since scoring 20 in the win over Herrin in the first game of the season.
This win gave the Lions their third win of the season putting their record at 3-4 for the year and equaling their total number of wins for the season last year.
Carterville will finally play their first home game of the season this Friday night when they host Anna-Jonesboro in another SIRR conference game. Saturday, the Lions will travel to Coach Shane Hawkins old stomping grounds Trico HS. Both games will start at 7:45 PM.
Carterville Girls Basketball Are Ranked #3 In State
Coach Matt Crains’ Carterville Lions basketball team are ranked #3 in the AP‘s first rankings of the season.
The Lions beat AJ this past Monday night for their first home game and home win of the season.
This week, the Lady Lions will travel to Nashville to play a key SIRR Conference game. These two teams finished last year as co-champs in the Mississippi division of the river-to-river conference.
Two other Southern Illinois teams are also ranked in the AP poll. Harrisburg is ranked #1 in class 2A and Goreville is #2 in 1A.
Thanks To Our Sister Station
Late in the week, i received a call from Murf asking if I would want to call a SEMO Redhawks game on our sister station in Cape GIrardeau, SEMO ESPN 1220 AM.
Of course I agreed as I love to call games, but especially basketball.
it was the SEMO Lady Redhawks on the road at Evansville to face the Purple Aces.
At least I didn’t jinx them, as SEMO won the game 54-50.
I just wanted to say thank you to Mike RInnick who gave me the broadcast info I needed and to Veronica Young who was a fantastic engineer for the broadcast.
Also, a big thank you yo Morgan Harding from SEMO Redhawks Athletic Department, who was great to work with, and gave me all the info I needed during the game.
