What A Week For The Carterville Lions

It's good to be a Carterville Lion, Carterville Lion fan, Carterville Lion parent and even a Carterville Lion broadcaster as the last seven days for the CHS have been impressive and very rewarding.

Carterville Jr High Lions are STATE CHAMPIONS!

Coach Corey Clouser and the Jr High Lions came into the Class L State Championship game riding a fourteen game winning streak.

Tuesday night they beat Massac County in the Semi-Finals 56-48 and the Lions would move on to face Wolf Branch from Swansea, IL for the state title.

In front of a fantastic crowd at Rend Lake College, the Lions beat Wolf Branch 77-46 to win the Illinois Class L State Championship.

Congratulations to Coach Clouser, Coach Fields and to all of the players, cheerleaders and fans on a fantastic season.

Carterville Lion Girls Basketball Win Regional Championship

Thursday night, Coach Matt Crain and his Lady Lions found themselves playing in the Regional Championship game of for the seventh year in a row this time facing the Centralia Orphan Annies.

The Lions got off to a slow start in the first quarter as the shot just didn't fall and trailed the Annies 9-5 at the end of the first.

The Lions defense picked up in the second and at the 5:30 mark of the quarter took the load at 14-12 and never looked back winning 57-34.

Jeniah Thompson led the Lions with 16 and Abbey Crain finished with 14. The Annies were led by Alyssa Hutton and Hannah Tomlianovich who each had 8.

Geary Deniston of The Southern has the complete game wrap up.

The win also gave the Lions a record of 28-3 ...a record for most wins in season.
