Well....I didn't see that coming.
You've probably heard me say ad nauseam that I love the week one match-up the Lions play every football season in the Benton Rangers. They are usually good games, plus you get an decent idea of what your team has. However, this year, it was all Benton as they popped the Lions 41-0.
For some reason, in my head, I felt that this match-up was a close match-up. But when you look at the last five years, the average winning margin of victory is twenty five points.
2019/20 - Rangers 42-0
2020/21 - Covid year, did not play
2021/22 - Rangers 23-6
2022/23 - Lions 28-0
2023/24 - Lions 27-12
So, according to the numbers, I will refrain from using this train of thought in 2025/26.
Other than the first drive of the game for the Lions, the Rangers dominated every facet of the game. Coach Justin Groves and the Rangers show they were in fact the better team on Friday night, setting up what could be a very good season once again.
The Lions did get a very good performance of Chance Myers at running back. He was able to showcase his break away speed on a couple of occasions. His first long run in the 1st quarter was called back on a holding penalty thirty yards behind the play.
He finished the night with 152 yards on 20 carries.
I put together a highlight version from our livestream this past week.
Coming up this week, the Lions will head to Nashville to face the Hornets in week two. Nashville took care of the Carlyle Indians 52-8 in the season opener.
