Mid-Winter Tourneys Underway in West Frankfort and Carbondale

We are halfway through the basketball season and both the boys and girls CHS teams are playing in tournaments this week.

Coach Shane Hawkins and his Lions began play in the West Frankfort Mid-Winter Classic with a overtime win over Eldorado Saturday night 67-65.

The Lions were down by seven points early in the third quarter, but fought their way back to force the overtime. Eli Downen hit the game winner with 1.4 seconds left on the clock in overtime.

It was a fantastic team win over the Eagles who came in to the game with a 13-4 record. The Lions were led by Austin Garbe with 24 points and Downen finished with 19. Others getting in the score book include Stritzel - 2, Anderson - 9, Moore - 9, Pearson - 2.

The Lions will face the host Redbirds Wednesday night at 8:30 pm. Join me and Scott Hudson for the call on NewsRadio WJPF starting at 8:15 pm or watch the live stream of the game here.

Friday evening the Lions will take on Christopher at 5:30 pm. The Lions will finish up the Mid-Winter on Saturday with the game time depending how they finish the next two games.
