Lions Pick Up First Win Of The Season
The Carterville Lions, after dropping four games in the Pyramid Plus tourney a week ago, beat the West Frankfort Redbirds 58-44 on Saturday night.
The Lions led from the start as they built a fifteen point lead at the end of the first quarter. At one point in the third quarter, coach Shane Hawkins squad had a twenty-eight point lead.
Ten players contributed point wise, and were led by Preston Sumner, who had eleven points and by Austin Garbe who also scored eleven. Garbe was playing in his first game of the season after dealing with an injury causing him to miss all four games of the Pyramid Plus Tourney.
Rounding out the scoring Carson Pearson 9, Nikolas Laird 4, Bryce Anderson 3, Conner Hawkins 5, Caden Hawkins 2, Cameron Hall 3, Eli Downen 6, Jake Hixon 2.

The Lions play two games this week as they will host the Du Quoin Indians for the SIRR Conference game of the season. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:45 PM Friday night.
On Saturday, the Lions will play Calloway County, KY in the Organ Donor Shootout taking place at McCracken County High School in Paducah. Game time is set for 4:30 PM.

Carterville Girls Basketball Hit The Road
Coach Matt Crain and the girls basketball team are 6-1 on the season as they hit the road for a key SIRR Conference game on tonight when they travel to Anna-Jonesboro to face the Wildcats.
The ladies will be at home on Saturday when they host Marshall County at 4:30 pm
Carterville Cheerleaders Take First at Pinckneyville Invite
The Carterville High School Cheerleaders kicked off their competition on Sunday at the Pinckneyville Invitational by finishing first in their class.
With the first place finish, they qualified for the ICCA Championships that are scheduled for January 11th in Springfield, IL.
