Lions Football - It's Less Than Two Months Away...

Updated: Jul 21, 2019

I know I've been pretty quiet for the last few weeks as I've been pretty busy this summer.

But today, I was adding some events to my calendar and it suddenly hit me that the high school season is only 7 weeks away. That. Just. Doesn't. Seem. Possible.

Yes indeed, there it is.

August 30th...7:00 PM...Cville @ Benton

Carterville will have a different look on the sideline this year, as Brett Diel takes over the head coaching position for the Lions.

The Lions have been busy going through their summer work outs and 7on7 games, but the real work will begin the second week of August as the seasons first official practice will be on August 12th this year.

A year ago, the Lions finished the season with a 3-6 record.

The Lions 2019 season is as follows:

August 30th - at Benton Rangers (Last year - Carterville 20-6 win)

September 6th - Home vs. Herrin Tigers (Last year - Tigers win 49-35)

September 13th - at Murphysboro Red Devils (Last year - Murphysboro win 21-19)

September 20th - Home vs. Du Quoin Indians (Last year - Indians win 41-0)

September 27th - at Anna-Jonesboro Wildcats (Last year - Wildcats win 28-14)

October 4th - Home vs. Nashville Hornets (Last year - Hornets win 42-14)

October 11th - Home vs. Sparta Bulldogs (Last year - Lions win 49-26)

October 18th - at Pinckneyville Panthers (Last year - Lions win 25-3)

October 25th - Home vs. Mascoutah Indians (Last year - 46-26 loss at Effingham)

There are only two more seasons of conference play as we know it for IHSA Football. Beginning with the 2021 the IHSA will implement district play throughout the state.

Lets Go Lions!
