Let the Carterville Lions Football Season Begin

It's so hard to believe that the 2018 high school football season is just two weeks away.

Most of the schools in the area will celebrate their "soap/soda/Gatorade scrimmage" games this Friday night and the Carterville Lions kick things off with "Meet the Lions" night at CHS.

This is always a great event and this year is shaping up to be no different.

Activities begin with the various team meetings for parent that start at 5:00 after a brief introduction the auditorium from the Athletic Director Brett Dial and others.

At 6:00 PM will be the volleyball scrimmage in the main gym and then at 7:00 PM will be the introduction of all the fall sports athletes and of course the night concludes with the scrimmage of the football teams.

This year there will be live music and as always great food is available for $7.00 per plate.

I will have the live stream up and running for the football scrimmage and the introduction of all the Carterville athletes. I will post the link a little later this week.

The Lions football team will kick off the 2018 season at home on Friday, August 24th when they host the Benton Rangers.

Puerto Rico celebrates winning the Colt World Series at Rent One Park

Puerto Rico is the PONY Baseball International Colt World Series Champion!

I had the privilege of calling each of the games during the World Series and I had a fantastic time. During the twenty games over a course of six days were fantastic and Southern Illinois is so incredibly lucky to have this international competition right here in our area.

I want to congratulate everyone that was involved in bringing this tournament to Rent One Park. From Southern Illinois Miners CEO/Manager Mike Pinto, to Kathy Perry and John Wilson and all of the staff of the Miners to PONY CEO & President Abraham Key, Steve Miller and everyone who worked to make a massive undertaking happen.

I can't wait for the 2019 Colt World Series!
