Homecoming 2018 - There Is A Lot Riding On This Game
Updated: Sep 21, 2018
It's one of the biggest weekends during the high school year...Homecoming!
Friday night the Carterville Lions will host the Anna-Jonesboro Wildcats with kickoff slated for 7:00 PM.
This is a critical game for the Lions after laying an egg last Friday night on the road in DuQuoin.
The Lions dominated the Indians in the first quarter, keeping DQ pinned deep in their own territory, but just could not capitalize as led 6-0 after a 35 yard TD run.
In my opinion, it was this drive by the Indians that turned out to the drive of the game and the Indians took advantage. DuQuoin had the ball at their own 10 yard facing a 2 and 40. On a jet sweep to the left side, the Indians were able to run 40 1/2 yards to get the first down. Five plays later, the td run.
The Lions were just never able to get anything going and turned the ball over six times, which is something they simply cannot do again.
Anna-Jonesboro is on a roll right now. After losing their first two games of the season, the Wildcats have won their last two coming in to this game. The Lions have lost three in a row.
There should not need to be a lack of motivation for the Lions in this game. Lost three in a row...shut out last Friday...six turnovers...homecoming? What more needs to be said about the importance of this game? Nothing.
There will be a big turnout for the game as there always is on homecoming, and the Lions need to be able to hear you on the field.
I had the chance to talk to Coach Dennis Drust about the game with the Wildcats.
Scott and I will have the call on NewsRadio WJPF starting with our pre-game show at 6:45 pm.
You can watch the game on our YouTube channel as well.
