Don't Look Now, The Lions Are On A Hot Streak

Tonight the Carterville Lions hit the road for SIRR Conference game as they travel to Nashville to take on the #1 ranked Hornets.

The Lions are coming off back-to-back overtime wins last weekend as they beat Anna-Jonesboro 58-56 on Friday night and then followed that up with another OT win over Massac County on Saturday. Don't forget that the Saturday before the Lions took Benton to overtime as well before falling 36-35 on a last second shot

It will be a tough task to beat the Hornets on their home floor tonight. Coach Wayne Harre has his team on a roll as they come in to tonight's game with a 26-2 record overall and 6-1 in the SIRR. That one conference loss was to Pinckneyville back on January 4 as the Panthers won 31-29.

The last time the Lions beat Nashville at Assembly Hall was in the 2014/15 season. That night the Lions won 47-46.

Saturday night will be a special night evening as the games will be played at Carterville Jr High School (old CHS), as CHS is hosting the wrestling sectionals all weekend long.

During halftime, the 1986-87 Lions basketball team will be recognized. That team was the only Lions team to win a sectional title at the old high school.

It's going to be a lot of fun to head back to that gym and play a game. Hope to see everyone there.

You can listen to both games on NewsRadio WJPF with me and Scott Hudson starting at about 7:30 pm.

If you can't make it to the games, you can watch them below:

Lady Lions Open Play in Regionals on Tuesday

Coach Matt Crain and his Lady Lions will open play in the regionals on Tuesday night at Carbondale High School.

They will take on the winner of the Murphysboro vs Carbondale game that will be played Monday night at 7:00 PM.

With a win, the Lions would then play on Thursday night at 7:00 PM in the regional final.

The Lions enter the post-season with a 26-3 record overall, a SIRR Conference Championship and the only Southern Illinois team ranked in the top 10 Class 3A polls.

Good luck to Coach Crain and the Lady Lions!!!
